US missionary kidnapped in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (UPI): A US missionary has been kidnapped in northern Haiti, UN officials in the troubled Caribbean nation said Tuesday.

The Rev. Pritchard Adams III was abducted in Cap-Haitien over the weekend by kidnappers asking for $80,000 for his release. Family of the victim negotiated the ransom down to $5,000, officials said.

Adams has been living in Haiti for the last 24 years.

Kidnappings have increased dramatically in recent years following the departure of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
