Saturday, October 14, 2006
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AFP): US hotelier Sol Kerzner on Friday recovered the remains of his son, said airport personnel, after he was killed in a helicopter crash.
Howard "Butch" Kerzner, who took the helm of Kerzner International, died Wednesday along with three others in the crash.
The elder Kerzner arrived in Santo Domingo Thursday, after a stopover in Nassau, to remove the body of his son, according to sources at Santo Domingo's airport.
Butch Kerzner operated hotels and casinos in Dubai and Singapore, along with CapitaLand, to bid for a casino in Singapore casino.
Kerzner owned Atlantis and One and Only Hotels in seven countries. He took over from his father in 2004.
He and army pilot Quelvier Matos and navy officer Emilio Rosario Almonte were killed while surveying land near Puerto Plata, authorities said.
