El Paso ends Florida-Bahamas LNG project
Saturday, October 7, 2006
NEW YORK, USA (Reuters): El Paso Corp. on Friday confirmed the cancellation of its Seafarer liquefied natural gas project that would have linked gas to the Florida market from a planned terminal in the Bahamas.
The Seafarer LNG project application was withdrawn last week from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, said El Paso spokesman Richard Wheatley.
"There were basically three factors: no shippers, questions surrounding the infrastructure for LNG facility development within the Bahamas and also the environmental constraints and requirements dependent for the project offshore Florida."
Houston-based El Paso owns North America's largest natural gas pipeline system and one of North America's largest independent natural gas producers.
