LETTER TO THE EDITORCuban dietary claims doubtfulFriday, October 6, 2006Dear Sir:
The problem with reprinting articles from the government-owned newspaper Juventud Rebelde is that you have no idea how true are the “facts” they deal out to Cuba’s youth. It may be a fact that Cuba has 3,000 centenarians, but that they attribute their longevity to a diet including fish, eggs, milk, white meat vegetables and manioc is, to my mind, doubtful. When I was in Cuba in 2003, fish was seldom seen, unless you live on the coast, eggs were not always available, milk seldom seen and under strict government control, and the white meat would have to be pork, because the supply of chicken was not reliable. Cubans hardly eat green vegetables and unlike in Mexican and other Latin American countries’ cooking, seasoning is hardly used. Gregory Charles Most popular articles: viewed, printed and e-mailed
