ST JOHN’S, Antigua: The West Indies Cricket Board and Yum Restaurants International, which owns the KFC brand, have announced their sponsorship of the current West Indies cricket team that will be defending their title in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy Tournament in India, starting on Saturday.
According to Commercial Manager of the West Indies Cricket Board, Paul Skinner, KFC has already played a significant part in sponsoring the regional One-Day tournament and their latest announcement only extends their relationship and commitments to the success of West Indies cricket.
“KFC is deeply involved in West Indies cricket as the sponsor of our regional One-Day tournament, the KFC cup,” Skinner said in a release by the Windies Cricket Board. “This further deepens our relationship with KFC and demonstrates their commitment to West Indies cricket.
“We are extremely pleased to be associated with the company and look forward to further collaboration in the future.”
Commenting also on the partnership was KFC’s General Manager for the Caribbean and Central/Latin America, Ben Butler, and he said: “KFC is delighted to be associated with the West Indies Cricket Team at this time. One of the main drivers of our success in the Caribbean region results from our active participation and investment in the communities where we operate our brands.
“We invest in many social and educational programs at the level of the franchisee in several countries. We know that the people of the Caribbean region have a passion for the Colonel’s Original Recipe Chicken and for cricket. Our sponsorship of the West Indies Cricket Team was an easy decision to make. It is our way of giving back to the people of the Caribbean and communities who support our brands”.
After failing to make it into the main group of the tournament, the title holders found themselves having to play the qualifying round to win one of the two slots available.
The West Indies will first play Zimbabwe in Motera on October 8, before taking on Bangladesh in Jaipur three days later. They will finish the qualifying round on October 14 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
