Jamaican woman murdered in BVI
10-05-2006
ROAD TOWN, BVI: A Jamaican woman living in the British Virgin Islands was killed Tuesday evening when she was thrown over a balcony of her apartment by two armed masked men who entered her apartment.
Dorcas Rhule, 39, who lived in the east of the territory was thrown from a 4 storey building about 40 to 45 feet from her apartment balcony.
Another young woman who also lived in the same apartment managed to escaped with injuries and is under police guard at the territory's lone Peebles Hospital.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Reynell Frazer, about 8:20 pm, police were called to East End in the vicinity of Little Dix Hill, where it was revealed that two men had entered an apartment that was occupied by two women.
One of the women, a 29-year-old Jamaican national, on entering the apartment, was assaulted by a man armed by what was described as a hand gun. During her attempt to escape, the woman was assaulted by a yet a second man but managed to successfully escape as she, with minor injuries, sought refuge from a neighbour.
Police say it would appear that the roommate was being held captive by the two men as the woman entered her apartment.
The men reportedly fled the scene on foot after making attempts to enter the woman’s vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot below.
Police subsequently found the body of the woman’s roommate, Rhule, on the dirt in front of the apartment building.
The roommate was pronounced dead at 10:35 pm by Dr Scatliffe. The woman was transported to Peebles Hospital where she remains under heavy security.
Police officials are still conducting investigations into the circumstances that led to the roommate’s death.
