LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I am very concerned about the state of affairs in Grenada

Saturday, September 30, 2006

Dear Sir:

I am very concerned about the state of affairs in Grenada at present and those in charge in public office and their blunders.

Observing other news and developments in and around the Caribbean, I often ask myself what kind of vision or guarantees our leader and fellow politicians have to offer Grenadians returning home; also foreigners willing to invest in the Spice Island?

Moving around the island I noticed the same old trend, where public spending is heavily concentrated in the capital of St George's as usual. while the largest parish of St Andrews lies dormant and undeveloped.

One asks oneself why would people responsible for and trusted with public spending place an ugly monstrous concrete building in the name of Queens Park adjacent to a filthy open gully right in the heart of the dilapidated part of town, when it would of definitely suited the Seamoons Pavilion, which lies in ruins and could have done with the much-needed revitalisation St Andrews craves for.

Are those vested to manage and govern the country too dense to realise this area would have been ideal to facilitate such a gross monster of this magnitude? Why, until this blessed day, are there no decent hotels or accommodation in the largest constituency? Why are farmers who have respectfully molded the economy for the past 50 years not subsidised? Why are there no serious programs in place to rebuild our devastated forests? Why are our coastal waters not patrolled and left open to felons fuelling an illicit trade and distibuting their spoils of class A drugs coming to our shores from South America while innocent law abiding citizens watch helplessly with no hope or change to come?

The representatives, authorities and administrators of Grenada today are mainly bourgoisie and intellectuals who could never have the island's interests at heart but mere vanity and greed for power.

Like Mr Noel stated, true patriots and martyrs such as the legendary Sister Scotty (Scotilda Noel) were genuine citizens who dearly cared for their people and country. So when I see the kind of politics and policies in circulation in Grenada at present it paints a bleak future for the younger generations at home.

If there are any Grenadians out there who, like myself, are awake and aware of the political bias and immaturity of all political opportunists in and around our blessed country, please stand and make your voice heard too.

Klein Padmore.
