USVI National Guard wins best 'chow' award

ST JOHN, USVI: Spokeswoman Karen Williams of the USVI National Guard, has announced that the Virgin Islands 651st General Support Maintenance Company has won the Phillip A. Connelly Award for Region II, in a tie for First Place with the state of Mississippi.

The Phillip A. Connelly Award is an Army Food Service Program, is co-sponsored by the International Food Service Executives Association and the Department of the Army. The Army Center for Excellence Subsistence administers the program.
 
The Connelly Award program applies to all Active Army units and all Army Reserve Component Units having an organic food service capacity in the field or garrison.
 
The USVI's eight member team will next compete on St Croix on November 18 for the Army-wide national award. 
 
The memorial award, established in 1968, is named for the late Phillip A. Connelly, a former President of  the International Food Service Executives Association.
