09-26-2006
WASHINGTON, USA: A four-day seminar entitled "New Approaches to Policy and Practice for Teacher Educators in the Americas" opens Tuesday in Port-of-Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago. It is being organized jointly by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the government of that Caribbean country.
More than one hundred experts drawn from 25 countries -- representing the Caribbean and North, Central and South America -- will participate in the event. The event will bring together university presidents, teacher trainers, government officials, researchers and representatives of nongovernmental organizations engaged in improving education in the Americas.
The opening ceremony takes place at the Normandie Hotel at 8:30 a.m. Among others, Trinidad and Tobago’s Education Minister, Senator Hazel Manning, and Lenore Yaffee García, Director of the OAS Department of Education and Culture, will address the opening.
The seminar is jointly sponsored by the OAS and the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Education as well as the University of Maryland in the United States and the Inter-American University Organization, an international association focused on cooperation among universities as well as on higher education development in the hemisphere.
