BVI police investigating armed robbery

ROAD TOWN, BVI: Police in the British Virgin Islands are investigating an armed robbery that took place in the territory this week at a supermarket in capital Road Town.

According to police reports, while customers were at Bobby's supermarket at about 11:20 pm, three men entered the store and ordered the customers not to move. One man had a hand gun.

Police say the first assailant was attired in a long sleeved jersey with a pair of jeans and black covering over his face. The second assailant was attired in a white tee-shirt with a pair of jeans and a white shirt covering his face and the third assailant was attired in a white shirt, a pair of jean with a white shirt over his face.

The assailants escaped with between $2.000 and $5,000 in cash and a gold chain, taken from one of the customers during the robbery. However, no injuries were sustained.

This supermarket has a security officer and at the time of the robbery reports are he was in the supermarket.

The police have since had meetings with the management of the supermarket and requested that he upgrades his security systems including having the necessary cameras in place.

Over the past months there have been armed robberies carried out in the BVI and police have been making serious attempts to get the culprits but with not much support from the community.
