Antigua-Barbuda consulate in Toronto to mount independence exhibition
Wednesday, September 20, 2006
ST JOHN'S, Antigua: The Consulate of Antigua & Barbuda in Toronto will be mounting an exhibition in commemoration of the country’s Silver Jubilee Independence celebration.
Communications out of the Toronto office indicate that "the exhibit embodies a journey through time, progression and development. In addition, the exhibition will seek to both remind and teach the Antigua and Barbudan Diaspora, along with Canadians and other nationalities the journey that has made us into a people, and the threshold at which we now stand and will be using to launch out country into the future."
To this end, the Toronto office is seeking pieces to be used as part of the exhibit whether in the field of entertainment, sports, security, historical sites, notable events, infrastructure and development. It is anticipated that the artifacts, photographs and other memorabilia collected will represent notable events from these themes through an interactive and multi-media display.
A statement from the Toronto office says, “It is intended that the exhibit will appeal not only to persons with an interest in history, but to a wider circle of persons for whom understanding and appreciating a country come via vehicles of culture and heritage”.
