09-20-2006

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AFP): Foreign ministers from the 15-nation Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are to hold talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in New York on September 25, the group's Guyana-based headquarters announced Tuesday.

Patricia Rouse, Grenada's ambassador to the United Nations, said the meeting is to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting before the Caribbean ministers address the gathering of world leaders.

The meeting comes seven months after the two sides met in the Bahamas to discuss issues including US border security, criminal deportees, and drug trafficking.

CARICOM, created in 1958, groups 12 former British colonies, one existing British colony, Haiti and Suriname.
