Constitutional changes in Turks and CaicosThursday, September 14, 2006GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos Islands: Pursuant to the new Turks and Caicos Islands Constitution introduced on August 9, 2006, the territory's Governor, Richard Tauwhare, has assigned to Ministers of Government responsibility for the conduct of business in the House of Assembly in respect to:
These responsibilities have been handed over to Cabinet Ministers, with Premier Michael Misick holding responsibility for the conduct of business in the House of Assembly in respect of External Affairs. The Deputy Premier, Floyd Hall, now has responsibility for the Regulation of International Financial Services and Galmo Williams assumes responsibility for Defence and Internal Security in the House of Assembly. The new Constitution also makes provision for the establishment of an Advisory National Security Council. The Advisory National Security Council consists of: a) Governor Richard Tauwhare The purpose of the Council is to make recommendations to the Governor on matters relating to defence, external affairs, the regulation of international financial services, internal security.
