Trinidad companies for regional trade mission to Dominican RepublicThursday, September 7, 2006by Stephen Cummings PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: About 38 service-orientated companies in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to be part of a high powered regional trade mission to the Dominican Republic from October 16 to 20. The trade mission is being organized by the International Trade Negotiations Unit (ITNU), of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce . The unit works on behalf of its stakeholders in the private sector and on this occasion will be partnering with the Barbados Coalition of Services Industry (BCSI). Director of the Trinidad-led trade mission, Lawrence Placide in an interview with Caribbean Net News' Trinidad correspondent said some of the activities involved in the up-coming regional trade mission will focus on the non-oil, non-energy sectors. Discussions will centre on construction, banking, transportation, computer and engineering-related activities. The mission is also hoping to get financial support from the Trinidad government. One of the main objectives of the Mission is to further liberalize trade between Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and the Dominican Republic, by increasing linkages and market access opportunities. Caribbean Net News was, however, informed that Trinidad's Trade Minister Kenneth Valley and a government trade representative from the Dominican Republic could, although not yet confirmed, be part of the regional trade mission.
