Dominican students receive more scholarships from China

ROSEAU, Dominica: Twenty Dominicans, twelve women and eight men, will leave Dominica next week to pursue first degrees in various academic disciplines in China, starting September 2006.
The award of twenty scholarships this year takes to thirty the number of Dominicans awarded scholarships to study in China since the two countries established diplomatic relations in March, 2004.
The students will study in the following subject areas: Medicine; Business Administration; Forensic Psychology; International Business and Marketing/Business Management; International Economics and Trade, Finance; Economics/Business Administration; Small Business Management; Information Technology; Accounting and Finance with Computer Systems; International Relations; Geography/Geology; Economics and Trade; Food Science/Technology; Electronics/Telecommunications and International Trade.
The Government of Dominica has invested heavily in young people in the last few years. No other Government in modern times has done more to secure full scholarships and partial scholarships for Dominicans to study overseas and in Dominica.
Apart from the scholarships to China, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico, Government has secured partial scholarships for Dominicans now studying at the Grambling State University and Midwestern State University in the United States of America. Many young persons have also been given financial assistance to study at the UWI School of Continuing Studies, the Dominica State College and the Business Training Centre.
Meanwhile twenty Dominicans are expected to leave Dominica to pursue university education in Venezuela in September 2006. These students are now taking Spanish classes at the Venezuelan Institute.
