PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: A date has been set for the trial of Trinidad and Tobago's former Government Minister of Energy, Finbar Gangar.

On Thursday, Port of Spain magistrate Ejenny Espinet set a tentative date for October 6 as the start of the trial.

The magistrate adjourned the matter to that date after she was told by Ganger's lawyer that his client had appealed a portion of an earlier rulling. The appeal was filed on Wednesday.

Ganger is a former Energy Minister under the previous Basdeo Panday administration. Ganger has been charged with two counts of failing to declare his financial assets, contrary to the country's Integrity in Public Life Act of 1987. Former Prime Minister, Basdeo Panday has been charged and convicted for similar offices. He was later granted bail pending appeal.

Ganger's case however, is alleged to have occurred in 1999, and between October 9 and 24, 2000. Gangar was charged in 2004 under the Integrity in Public Life Act.
