Simpson could cut down Campbell in the 100m ranking

FLORIDA, USA : With only 28-points separating her from the Sherone Simpson, this campaign's current in-form sprinter, Olympic champion Veronica Campbell is likely to lose her top spot in IAAF World 100-metres event rankings, after announcing on Wednesday that she would no longer complete this year.
The Jamaican took over the lead in the ranking from French star Christine Arron in the last IAAF release without gaining a single-point. However, with Simpson striking rich form in the latter part of this season and looking certain to keep dominating for the remainder of the year, Campbell's lead at the top could very well be cut down at the end of this track and field period.
Campbell leads the table with a score of 1368 over World Champion Lauryn Williams (1365) from USA, France's Arron (1364), World Indoor 60m champion, American Me'Lisa Barber (1347) and Simpson, who moved up one place to fifth with a score of 1342. American multi-global medallist Marion Jones sits just behind her, at 1340.
Leading the dash with a scorching 10.82 seconds, Simpson and Jones each owns three of the seven sub-11 seconds 100m clockings this season, with Campbell, who clocked the first one for the year, owning the other, at 10.99.
In her last three 100m starts in the outdoor area, Simpson produced two of her triple sub-11 timings (10.98 and 10.87), while her third race at the Crystal Palace Norwich Union Grand Prix in London produced a clocking of 11.00.
The 22-year-old Jamaican also leads the world over the half-lap with repeated times of 22.00. Her recent dynamic performances on the circuit saw her jump a whopping 13-places to 24th in the Women's Overall World Ranking.
Ethiopian prodigy Tirunesh Dibaba leads the overall ranking with 1442 points over Russian pole vault world record holder Yelena Isinbaeva, who has 1428 points. Campbell and the injured Bahamian World and Olympic champion Tonique Williams-Darling are the best rankers, at 8th and 15th respectively.
Another Jamaican in-form sprinter, Asafa Powell, the joint-world record holder, leads the men's 100m ranking with 1431 points. He also jumped five places to fourth in the overall standings.
