The US did not issue a 'travel advisory' against St LuciaFriday, August 4, 2006BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The United States Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has issued a correction to a recent report that the United States government has issued a "travel advisory" "against" St Lucia. As part of its responsibility to American citizens traveling abroad, the United States State Department publishes Travel Warnings, Public Announcements, and Consular Information Sheets. The United States does not issue "travel advisories." Consular Information Sheets are issued for every country of the world. They describe entry requirements, currency regulations, unusual health conditions, the crime and security situation, political disturbances, areas of instability, and special information about driving and road conditions. They also provide addresses and emergency telephone numbers for US embassies and consulates. They are updated periodically. Recently, the Consular Information Sheet for St Lucia, which had last been revised in December 2004, was updated to inform travelers about a series of crimes this year against US citizen visitors. Travel Warnings are issued only when a dangerous situation occurs in a country or region; they advise Americans to defer travel to that region. At the present time, there are Travel Warnings issued for 28 countries around the world. No Travel Warning has been issued for St. Lucia. All Consular Information Sheets and Travel Warnings are available to the public at www.travel.state.gov. Back...Most popular articles: viewed, printed and e-mailed
