PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The Council of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus in Trinidad has agreed to renew the contract of Dr Bhoendradatt Tewarie as Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of the St Augustine Campus.
This follows a process agreed at its meeting of April 20-21, 2006 for assessment and re-appointment of executive leaders of The University.
The process involves input from constituents and stakeholders of The University utilizing objective, structured performance indicators.
After receipt, review and summarization of this input, and with the concurrence of the Chancellor, the matter was presented to the University Council for review and approval. The University Council has approved a four-year renewal of Principal Tewarie's contract.
It was earlier rumored that Dr Tewarie might have been replaced because of his administrative style at the campus. Earlier this year there were numerous protests by students over hikes in tuition fees and poor accommodation.
