PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The Governments of Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela are soon to conclude an agreement for the unitizing of any hydrocarbon reserves that straddle their maritime boundaries.

Information released from Trinidad's Foreign Affairs Ministry states the agreement will provide for the sharing of costs and benefits of both countries and to ensure that such exploitation takes place in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

It is also said that at the 7th Ordinary Meeting of the Steering Committee on the Unitization of Cross-border Hyrodrocarbon Reservoirs, which was held recently in Port of Spain, significant advances were made in the drafting and examination of a treaty that would govern the two energy-producing countries.

The Treaty, which is to be signed by the parties, is currently being considered by the respective Energy Ministers and will also include a provision on local content.

Caribbean Net News has learnt that the Kapok/Dorado Technical Working Group is presently examining data on the Kapok/Dorado field that was recently exchanged by the two countries.

Meanwhile, a treaty among the Caribbean neighbours it says will be in the furtherance of regional integration and the enhancement of bilateral exchanges to the mutual advantage of all parties concerned.
