Guyana seeks information on Khan's removalFriday, July 14, 2006by Gordon French GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The Guyana government indicated on Thursday that it was seeking information on the removal of fugitive businessman Shaheed 'Roger' Khan from Suriname to Trinidad and Tobago and subsequently to the United States where he has pleaded not guilty to narco-trafficking charges. Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) and Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon, at his post-Cabinet media briefing, noted that the Attorney General, Doodnauth Singh, has been the point man on this quest for information. "I would hesitate to be categorical because our AG is seeking medical attention overseas. I can't be specific about the way in which that information is being solicited from Suriname or Trinidad and Tobago," Dr Luncheon said. Media reports from Suriname indicate that the authorities are awaiting Guyana's request for information on Khan's removal from Suriname. The Guyanese businessman along with three other Guyanese was captured last month in a sting operation in Paramaribo that also netted over 200 kilos of cocaine. Last week the Guyana Government voiced its objection to the forceful and unlawful removal of its citizen across jurisdictions and emphasised that it has had no role in Khan's removal from Suriname or Trinidad and Tobago. Khan was wanted in Guyana for questioning in relation to the theft of high powered rifles from the Guyana Defence Force. He has been accused of plotting to kill several senior Surinamese officials and has been seen a s a major threat to the region's security. It is believed that Khan was deported from Suriname to Guyana via Trinidad and Tobago. He never made it to Guyana but was instead whisked away by U.S. federal agents from Trinidad.
