LONDON, England: Jamaican international and Bolton Wonderers' left-back, Ricardo Gardner, has been ruled out of competition until October in order to fully recover from a knee ligament operation.
The Reggae Boyz newly appointed captain, who also had a stint as skipper for Bolton last season, had been sidelined since the last rounds of matches of last season and was reported to be under the watchful eyes of world-renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman in the United States.
"Ricardo had a successful operation and as things stand he should be back in action during October," Bolton's manager Sam Allardyce told the club's official website.
"He is currently going through an intense rehabilitation programme with the sports science team in Bad Ragaz. It is a blow to our preparations for the start of the new campaign, but Ricardo is a strong character and will return in a positive manner."
This is the third time Gardner's career has been put on hold with similar injuries and Steadman, who also treated him the previous times in 2000 and 2004, believes he will be ready to go again in October.
The 27-year-old, who made his break through playing impressively at left-back during the 1998 World Cup in France as a teenager, is currently continuing his rehabilitation at the team's training camp in Switzerland.
