Jamaica's Francis makes Watford switch

Thursday, July 13, 2006

WIGAN, England (AFP): English Premiership new-boys Watford completed the signing of Jamaica midfielder Damien Francis from Wigan on Wednesday.

Francis, 27, agreed a three-year contract and will cost Watford a fee potentially rising to 1.5 million pounds (2.7 million dollars).

He only moved to the JJB Stadium last season but struggled to hold down a regular place in Paul Jewell's side and made it clear he wanted to leave.

The former Norwich star becomes Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd's first major signing since he led the club into the Premiership via the play-offs last season.
