Jamaican FA play down Eriksson link
Friday, July 7, 2006
KINGSTON, Jamaica (AFP): Jamaica's football bosses insisted on Thursday they have not opened talks with Sven Goran Eriksson over their vacant national coaching position.
Eriksson is looking for a new job after stepping down as England manager and reports in the English media claimed he had been offered three million pounds per year (5.5 million dollars) to take charge of the Caribbean island's team.
But Jamaica's Football Federation president Crenston Boxhill is adamant his organisation has had no contact with the Swede, whose agent Athole Still recently admitted he would consider managing an English Premiership club.
However Boxhill has spoken to former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes about the Reggae Boyz's post and he told the Jamaica Observer: "I don't know anything about the story. I am hearing that for the first time. In fact, it is major news.
"It is no secret that we have been talking to a couple of people, including John Barnes, but we are still putting together a shortlist."
