USA beat Barbados 91-0 in Rugby World Cup qualifier

SANTA CLARA, USA (AFP): The United States pounded Barbados 91-0 here Saturday in a 2007 Rugby World Cup qualifier.

Patrick Bell, Todd Clever, Jeff Hullinger, Phillip Eloff, Vaha Esikia, Brian Barnard and Paul Emerick combined for 13 tries while Mike Hercus nailed as many conversions for the Eagles.

The USA will meet Canada - who beat Barbados 71-3 last Saturday - in the final match of the Americas qualifying group 3b in St. John's, Newfoundland on August 12.

Canada beat the United States 33-18 for fifth place in the Churchill Cup rugby tournament on June 17.

The winner of the group will advance directly to the World Cup finals in France, while the second-placed team will playoff with the second-place finisher from Americas group 3a, which includes Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.

The 3a winner will also advance directly to the 2007 World Cup.
