BVI chief minister to deliver State of the Territory Address on TuesdayTuesday, June 20, 2006ROAD TOWN, BVI: People in the British Virgin Islands are watching and waiting in anticipation of the Chief Minister"s annual State of the Territory Address on Tuesday. The people of the BVI will hear more about Government’s accomplishments over the past year when the Chief Minister DrOrlando Smith delivers his third annual State of the Territory Address at the Central Administration Complex at 5 in the afternoon. In particular, the Chief Minister is likely to touch on several key areas of economic and social development, such as financial services, tourism, investment, employment, infrastructure and health care. The Chief Minister is also expected to outline his Government’s vision for the coming year and beyond, as a major theme of the speech will be a look ahead to the continued progress of the Territory. Director of Communications Sandra Ward said the Chief Minister believes it is important to continue giving a full and open account of the work his Government is doing. It was at the Central Administration Complex that the Chief Minister and other members of his Government took the oath of office to lead the people of the Territory. Ms. Ward pointed out that the Chief Minister feels strongly that he should always return to the same place where the commitment was made and bring the people of the BVI up to date on the overall development of the Territory. June 16 will be three years since the Chief Minister and his Government took a solemn pledge to lead the people of the BVI, and the first State of the Territory Address was delivered on July 1, 2004. Tuesday's State of the Territory Address could be the final one for Chief Minister Smith as his National Democratic Party will go the polls in general elections constitutionally due by June next year.
