Trinidad president plans on World Cup success

ROTENBURG, Germany (Reuters): The president of Trinidad & Tobago is so confident the Caribbean team can pull off another World Cup shock against England on Thursday he has extended his stay in Germany.

Maxwell Richards was so impressed with his country's scoreless draw in their first game against Sweden he has cancelled his return date of June 21, a spokesman for the Trinidad & Tobago football association said.

"He told the players he always believed in them, but after the Sweden game, he really thinks they can get a result against England," spokesman Shaun Fuentes told Reuters.

"He said he has decided to extend his stay, because he thinks they will reach the next stage."

The point against one of the group favourites in their opening Group B encounter was all the sweeter after they were reduced to 10 men in the second half.

The islanders are playing at the finals for the first time and with a population of just 1.1 million are the smallest country ever to qualify.

Richards told the players of his decision while visiting their team base. Trinidad play Paraguay in their final group game, while England will face the Swedes.
