Permanent secretaries reshuffled in the BVI

Friday, June 9, 2006

ROAD TOWN, BVI: There has been a re-shuffle of permanent secretaries in the various Ministries in the British Virgin Islands. Four permanent secretaries have been given new ministry assignments.

Former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social development, Rosalie Adams, is now permanent secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works.

Julia Christopher, who was former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, was moved to the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Also former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, Sheila Brathwaite, has been moved to the Ministry of Health and Social Development. And, Josephine Callwood, formerly of the Ministry of Education and Culture, is now at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour.

Permanent secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Clyde Lettsome, and permanent secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Otto O'Neal, were not part of the re-shuffle and remained in the same assignments.

Re-assignments of this nature are carried out from time to time to provide permanent secretaries an opportunity to gain expertise in new subject areas and develop professionally. The last wide-spread re-assignment of permanent secretaries took place in 2003. The latest re-assignments became effective on Tuesday this week.

The Governor's Office, which is responsible for the public service, did not gave a reason for the re-shuffle.
