PIARCO, Trinidad: Former Trinidad and Tobago internationals Warren Archibald and Everard Cummings revealed contrasting viewpoints ahead of Friday's start of the FIFA 2006 World Cup tournament in Germany.

Archibald believes the twin-island Caribbean nation can bring the trophy to the region, but Cummings feels the team is not yet at that level.

We can win, says Archibald

Archibald, a former midfielder during his World Cup qualifying playing days for the national side in 1973 and 1989, said the Soca Warriors are relatively new to all their opponents in Germany and that could spring a few surprises.

"I am telling you, we are going to win the World Cup," he was quoted as saying at the Piarco International Airport prior to his departure to Frankfurt, Germany.

"Nobody knew about us. So they (the team) could pull some surprises. I hope they do. They have a ticket and they have a chance."

Trinidad were unable to find their touches against a young Wales side and against Slovenia and Czech Republic, which saw them losing all three games, but Archibald is still optimistic about the Caribbean side's chances.

"Regardless if they lost some or if they win some (warm-up matches), they came together at the right time," said Archibald. "In soccer, you have to gel, you have to come together.

"Speaking from a personal point of view, they came together at the right time. More power to the guys and I wish them all the best," he added.

Not yet ready - Cummings

In the meantime, Everard Cummings, a former team mate of Archibald, who also departed on the same chartered flight heading to Frankfurt on Wednesday, said he's confident the team will be very competitive, but doesn't feel they are at the World Cup winning level as yet.

"I just want to wish them all the best but I know that it's going to be very difficult because we're going up against world competition," he continued. "And I don't think that we are at that level as yet.

However, he thanked the team in advance for a job well done.

"I want to say on behalf of all those players, it's a job well done," Cummings said. "I know that the fellas, the Soca Warriors, who are an extension of us, they're going to do their best and whatever their best is, we have to accept.”
