PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Two men, one from Trinidad and the other from Tobago, who reportedly stole a bank vault containing more than TT$340,000 in cash and bank equipment, appeared before a San Fernando court on Wednesday.
Suspects Teddy Hosein, age 47, of San Francique in San Fernando, and Damien Seebaran, age 26, of Concorde, Tobago, are both charged for staging one of the biggest bank robberies in the country.
The men are said to have used a welding torch, after which they broke into the Counting House of Scotia Bank Ltd, located at MS Food City, Debe San Fernando. The bandits made their heist on Saturday May 20.
Both accused were unrepresented when the matter was called around 1.40 pm on Wednesday. Charges were laid indictable and they were not called upon to plead guilty or not guilty.
One of the two men, Hosein, who worked as a security guard at the complex where the incident took place, was also charged with making false reports. He told police he had being kidnapped and robbed.
The case is to be called again before a San Fernando Magistrate. If found guilty each could face at least 10 years in jail, possibly along with hard labour.
