LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Careful phrasing in the Holloway case

Thursday, May 25, 2006

Dear Sir:

I would like to thank you for the inclusion, in your Monday, May 22 article 'New arrest in the Holloway case', of the following sentence:

..."Van der Sloot, who subsequently moved to the Netherlands, is generally considered to be one of the last people to have seen Holloway alive."...

This has undoubtedly been a very trying time for the van der Sloot familly, which had a well-respected and previously unblemished reputation before their eldest son was caught up in this perplexing made-for-the-media mystery, and that careful phrasing will have given them hope that the truth may be revealed in the near future.

Mr Norman Thomas provided balanced, reasoned coverage of the vanishing and I was saddened to read of his passing. My condolances and prayers go out to his family.
