PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The Port of Spain civil court in Trinidad is expected to give its decision on May 3 as to whether or not an independent arbitration panel hearing an interconnection rate dispute between the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) and Digicel has the right to make interim decisions regarding rates.

The panel was earlier accused of attempting to make decisions which were considered outside of its legal boundaries.

Both TSTT and Digicel had their submissions heard on Friday but the court reserved judgment until May 3.

The panel was appointed by the Telecommunications Authority on March 31 to help settle the interconnection rates dispute between the two competing mobile companies, after the parties failed to agree on a settlement that had gone over an April 18 2006 deadline.
