St Vincent PM appeals for information on press secretary's murderWednesday, April 26, 2006by Kenton Chance KINGSTOWN, St Vincent: The Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, on Tuesday on radio and in Parliament issued a another appeal for information on the murder of his Press Secretary, Glenn Jackson, the second such appeal in less than 24 hours. On March 6 Jackson’s nude body was found in his parked car a short distance from his East Kingstown home. He died of a single bullet to the chest, police said. British investigators and local police have since been conducting investigations into the death. Senator St Clair Leacock, during Tuesday’s sitting of the House, voiced the Opposition’s desire to see the crime solved. “Glenn just didn’t deserve to die that way,” Leacock, who taught Jackson and was his Cadet Commandant, said during proceedings broadcast live on radio and television. He added: “The conclusion still has to be unanimous and universal that this country has to be more than anxious to solve Glenn's death because today for Glenn and tomorrow for me and or for you. And it is indeed very frightening,” noting the murder of a Guyanese minister last weekend. Leacock further said his comments were not merely for the record but signalled the seriousness that must be attached to the crime. During his appeal on Tuesday, Dr Gonsalves told the nation that the investigating team was “at a stage where other bits of information are needed to wrap up the investigation successfully.” During a press conference on Monday, the Prime Minister had likened the investigation to a jigsaw puzzle and told reporters that seemingly irrelevant information, especially regarding Jackson’s location and companion during the hours before his death, could help to solve the case, even as he asked the media’s help in convincing information holders to come forward. “The team of police investigators is confident that they will bring the killer or killers to justice,” Dr Gonsalves said on Tuesday. He added: “I assure you that the authorities, including the police, are determined to establish the truth and bring to justice those who are responsible for this wicked murder of Glenn Jackson.” Dr Gonsalves said the police had assured him that they had already possessed “substantial information, including forensic evidence, which is likely to lead to the detention and arrest of the actual killer or killers.” “But the police investigators want the further assistance of anyone who has any information in relation to the murder,” Dr Gonsalves said. “It is responsibility of the community as a whole to provide all available information that may assist in identifying the perpetrators of this crime.” He said: “We are pulling out all the stops to get further information of real value in relation to the murder of Glenn Jackson.” The Prime Minister said all information would be confidentially assessed and consideration would be given to its value in relation to the EC$100,000 (US$37,037) reward offered for an arrest and conviction. He further said: “The reward will be available if the information is of real value to the investigations even though a legal technicality may subsequently result in an acquittal of the person charged.” He said informants could speak directly to the investigators or other trusted persons who would contact the investigators on their behalf.
