PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Trinidad's Roman Catholic Archbishop of Port of Spain, Edward Gilbert, speaking at a traditional Easter Thursday service has condemned the attempt on the life of St Lucia's Roman Catholic Archbishop, Kelvin Felix.

On Wednesday night a man said to have been armed with a knife attempted to slash his throat of Archbishop Felix outside the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Castries, St Lucia. The Trinidad and Tobago Archbishop said the attack was evidence that crime is now rampant throughout the region.

The Trinidad Archbishop also said that we need to return to teaching young people the values we once knew about love and caring for others.

"It is a sign of the outrageous level of violence, the outrageous disrespect of life that is running through the Caribbean region and the entire world. When you look at the amount of violence by young people, one of the possibilities at least is that they don't know, they don't know the values and those values have not been witnessed to them," said Archbishop Gilbert as he spoke during the church service.
