CARSON, USA: Trinidad and Tobago's Cornell Glen had a dream start for his new club Los Angeles Galaxy in the U.S. Major Soccer League (MLS) on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center when he scored both goals in his team's 2-1 victory over Chivas USA.

After transferring to the Galaxy last week from Colorado Rapids, Galaxy head coach Steve Sampson immediately introduced him into the starting lineup and he did not disappoint.

"Glen is the type of player who will hold the ball and allow his teammates to get into the game," a source close to the team told Caribbean Net News on Saturday. "This was one of the main reasons Sampson playing him upfront."

Glen first-half wastes

Glen showed signs of scoring immediately from the kick, especially with Landon Donavon stretching the opponents from the midfield and Glen's striking partner Cobi Jones roaming on both sides of the pitch.

However, despite being presented with numerous chances to put the Galaxy in front, the Trinidadian wasted all his first-half chances. In the 12th minute, Glen was sent free on a long ball out of midfield, but a hustling Tim Regan in defence tracked down the attacker and broke up the play before him getting a clear look at goal.

The speedy striker had a series of close opportunity, which he should have put away, but poor finishing and superb defending saw both sides closing the first half goalless.

Rasov's quick stunner

After being totally dominated in the first-half Chivas came out the more inspired side and opened the scoring less then a minute into the second half.

Ante Razov scored past Kevin Hartman in goal just seconds after the second half to send Chivas 1-0 up.

Glen made up for wasted chances

Glen made up for his wasted first-half when he scored the equalizers in the 84th minute. Donovan won a heading battle to send a ball towards goal, which Glen ran onto and tucked it away inside the back post past Brad Guzan in goal.

Glen made it a night to remember when he scored the game winner deep into stoppage time after some clever moves from Donovan again.

Donovan, the USA high-profile striker dribbled past three Chivas players before patiently waiting for Glen to take up his place inside the box.

The American then picked out the Trinidad international with a cross, which he volleyed past Guzan for the second time in the match and drove a dagger right through the heart of the faithful Chivas fans, who were hopeful of a first time victory over the Galaxy.

Expressing delight after victory

"It always (feels bad) when you miss early chances," said Glen. "If I didn't score, the guys might be kicking my butt right now. As I said, it was a team effort. The guys weren't yelling at me. They were telling me to keep going."

Sampson was also delighted with his new signing’s second half finishing.

"I like the way Cornell Glen finished his chances in the second half. He was very down on himself at halftime and the guys picked him up," said Galaxy coach Steve Sampson after the game. "He wanted to make a statement in the second half and I think he did."

Glen's goals were his 11th and 12th in his MLS career, playing for four different clubs.
