Nevis administration condemns latest shootings

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis: The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) has indicated its deep concern over recent shooting incidents, one on Sunday at Brown Hill Village which left Deon Warner seriously wounded and a patient at the Alexandra Hospital, and the other on Tuesday at the Bath Springs in Charlestown in which Brian Mills of Charlestown was wounded when he was shot by two gunmen.

In an effort to solve crimes and bring perpetrators to justice, the NIA said it continues to throw its support behind the Police and has issued a call to the public to do the same.

In a press release issued Wednesday, 2006 from the Premier’s Office, the Administration said “We will continue to work with the Police, the Federal government and the civil society to put an end to this type of criminal activity by these young criminals. These shootings have caused grave concern among the residents of our small beautiful island.

“The Administration is working with the Police in an effort to solve these crimes and bring these perpetrators to justice. We have full confidence in the Police and we are calling on the general public to co-operate and work with the Police by giving information that would assist in bringing the criminals in our society to justice,” the release stated.

The Administration reminded all citizens of Nevis of the enormous development and progress Nevis has achieved over the last 14 years which could be threatened by this type of criminal activity. “Remember our Tourism industry which underpins our economy is extremely fragile,” the release said.

According to the release, the shooting incidents which came on the heels of another shooting incident on March 19, 2006 when Wendell Huggins and Judith Hendrickson were shot at their business place in Rawlins Village. Huggins remains hospitalised.

The Administration also conveyed its wishes for a speedy recovery to Warner and Mills.
