BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The multi-million dollar internet piracy case in which Barbadian broadcaster, Linda Walrond has been implicated is going ahead without her, but she isn't off the hook yet.

US officials say they haven't ruled out initiating extradition proceedings against the Bajan who, along with 18 others, is accused of pirating copyrighted computer software, games, and movies through non-public Internet sites, and they also still have an arrest warrant out for her.

They say at this point they will proceed with the other defendants and look into all their options. The next court date is set for June 12th. That will be a status hearing.

Walrond was named in a federal indictment as one of the people in an underground software piracy group known as RISCISO, who pirated the equivalent of 23,000 CD ROMS.

They're accused of illegally distributing large volumes of copyrighted software, games, and movies over the Internet, "particularly recently released items, for the use and benefit of members and affiliates of RISCISO, and of persons to whom RISCISO members and affiliates further distributed those items".

If convicted, the defendants could face five years in prison and a $500 000 fine for conspiring to infringe copyright. The actual infringement carries a maximum of three years imprisonment and a $500 000 penalty.
