PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Two of Trinidad's latest kidnap victims, used car dealers Joey Alexander, and Ramesh Mahabir, who were kidnapped earlier this week, have been released by their abductors.

In a televised interview, Police Commission Trevor Paul said Alexander was released on Tuesday around 1:45am.

Mahabir was also rescued by police officers from his abductors on Monday afternoon in the Maracas, St. Joseph north coast area handcuffed to a tree.

A $TT2 million-dollar ransom had been demanded for the safe return of Mahabir. It is however not clear if this was paid.

Commissioner Paul says response to the two incidents by his officers was in quick time.

Meanwhile, there has been public outcry by the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Pre-Owned Car Dealers Association, Inshan Ismael, who says it appears that car dealers in the country are now the ones being targeted by kidnappers for ransom.

In a statement Ismael says there is now fear throughout the industry in that some salesmen are packing up and leaving the country.

Commission Trevor Paul has since dismissed claims that there is now an orchestrated plan to abduct used car dealers, saying investigation does not show that the two kidnappings were related.
