PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: A TT$2 million-dollar ransom has been demanded for the safe return of Trinidad's latest kidnap victim, Princes Town businessman Ramesh Mahabir.

Mahabir was reportedly snatched by two men pretending to be customers at his car dealership in east Couva on Friday afternoon. Mahabir's family members are said to have been negotiating with the abductors ever since on the phone.

Investigators say Mahabir who is part owner of used car company, R&R Trading Company, was at Mac Bean Village, Couva, when he was abducted.

The family is said to have been contacted by the abductors late Friday night, demanding a two million dollar ransom. Mahabir is the second person to have been abducted in less that one week.

Police have also turned their attention to the abduction of St Helena Village resident and businessman, Joey Alexander, also a used car dealer.

Alexander, aged 21 and part owner of a foreign used car dealership in central Trinidad, was reportedly snatched by two masked men on Thursday evening around 9:20. The victim was on his way to visit his girlfriend at St Helena Village, Piarco when he was taken.

These two latest abductions have now brought the number of persons kidnapped for the year to four.

While there has been a ransom demanded for the return of Mahabir, up until Sunday there was no word on the whereabouts of Alexander.
