Fuel truck explodes in BVIWednesday, April 5, 2006ROAD TOWN, BVI: The driver of one of Delta Petroleum trucks in the British Virgin Islands remains in hospital after the vehicle he was driving exploded while delivering fuel to a Yacht Charter in Freshman’s Cay to the west of the island. The Fire and Rescue Services said Michael Smith suffered first-degree burns to both hands and his face. He was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Police reports say the truck was at the time pumping fuel to an underground fuel tank for Voyage Charters and there was a small spill and the truck was ignited which resulted in a massive explosion. The fire completely destroyed a warehouse and damaged the roofing walls of a sewerage station. The fuel truck was also destroyed, damage was also done to a mechanic shop, a white power boat and some vehicles in the area. Quick action from the Fire and Rescue Services prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings including Sopers Hole Marina and Restaurant.
