"We can't wait until next week when we start service to the Turks and Caicos Islands," said Barry Biffle, Chief Marketing Officer of Spirit Airlines.
"We will be serving both Providenciales and Grand Turk and we couldn't think of a better way to kick-off our new service than by dedicating our newest airplane to this island paradise. With this start of service, Spirit will offer 22 non-stops from our hub at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, including 12 in the Bahamas and the Caribbean."
"What a lovely honor it is to have Spirit Airlines dedicate a new plane to our islands. We are most appreciative and wish Spirit Airlines wonderful success," remarked Floyd Hall, Minister of Finance and Deputy Chief Minister of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Spirit's Airbus A319 aircraft seat 138 passengers, eight in Spirit Plus business class and 130 in its Coach class with all leather seating throughout the cabin. With Thursday's announcement, Spirit's fleet consists of 12 Airbus A319s, six Airbus A321s, and 16 MD-80s.
Spirit will take delivery of 13 more A319s in 2006 and is committed to becoming an all Airbus fleet by the fall of 2006.
