LONDON, England: Jamaica's joint-world record holder over 100-metre, Asafa Powell, has set his sights on solely reclaiming record for the discipline when he competes in the Norwich Union London Grand Prix - IAAF Super Grand Prix in London on Friday July 28.

Fresh from three super runs, which saw him running below 9.90 seconds on all three occasions, Powell has not ruled out asizzling performance that could very well improve the mark of 9.77secs he shares with American Justin Gatlin, his main challenger for the past two seasons, who withdrew from the clash with an injury.

"It can happen," Powell said confidently. "I know I'm running well enough to set a new world record."

In his last face off on British soil, the Jamaican equalled the world record in Gateshead with a solo run and he insists that even without the injured Gatlin he can still produce something exceptional.

"I don't mind running against the clock and I will run fast. My performances recently suggest I can do something special at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix," added Powell, who is optimistic about removing Gatlin's UK all-comers' mark of 9.89.

"I see no reason why I cannot set an all-comers' record. I've yet to really push myself this season to see how really fast I can go."

At last year's meeting Powell injured his groin and had to sit out the rest of the season and this year he wants to make-up for that tragedy.

"Last year at Crystal Palace was obviously terribly disappointing for me with the injury I sustained," the Commonwealth Games champion from Melbourne, Australia said.

"Now I want a big passionate London crowd to remember Asafa Powell for completing 100m with one of my most impressive runs."

On Friday Powell will line up against Briton's top man this season Dwain Chambers, Olympic silver medallist Francis Obikwelu of Portugal, American Olympic 200m champion Shawn Crawford, Marcus Brunson and Jamaica's Michael Frater.
