Dominica-Cuba relationship deepens with the opening of refurbished nursing schoolFriday, July 28, 2006ROSEAU, Dominica: The bilateral relationship between Dominica and Cuba has deepened with the opening of the newly refurbished Nursing School and Nurses hostel on Wednesday.
Not even intermittent rain was able to dampen the excitement and satisfaction of officials from both Dominica and Cuba for this historic occasion. Under the Cuban Technical Assistance Programme, the Cuban Government has so far contributed materials in the amount of over $500,000 while the Government of Dominica has contributed labour in the amount of $400,000 towards the refurbishment of the old Nursing School and Nurses hostel, now to be referred to as the Faculty of Health Sciences, Goodwill Campus. The refurbished building now consists of two clinical labs, one computer lab, four classrooms, offices for tutors and the Dominica Nursing Council and a thirty-seven room hostel with kitchen and common room. Under the Programme, the Cuban Government is providing seventeen nursing tutors over the next two and a half years. Also present at the opening ceremony were President of Dominica, Dr Nicholas Liverpool, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Minister for Health and Social Security, John Fabien, Minister for Education, Vince Henderson and Cuban Ambassador to Dominica, Osvaldo Cobacho.
