PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands: Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Hall accompanied by Governor Richard Tauwhare and Minister of Natural Resources and Social Services, Galmo Williams, released the Strategic Plan 2005 – 2009 and the Commissioner’s Policing Plan 2005 -2006 for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) during a Press Conference at the Chief Minister’s Office in Providenciales on Friday.
The Strategic Plan for 2005-2009 according to the Governor, sets out the mission of the RTCIPF, its aims, guiding principles, and strategic goals, while the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2005-2006 sets targets for each of the three strategic goals and details how these will be achieved.
These plans according to Governor Tauwhare “address the growing security needs of the Turks and Caicos Islands in ways which are not only urgent and radical but also soundly-based and realistic”. He went on to note that although the details of the Strategic Plan 2005/2009 are still being worked out, their aim is clear; to see the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force transformed.
Minister Williams, in his statement, pledged his government’s continued support of the RTCIPF adding that they are committed to providing the necessary resources needed to meet the objectives laid out in the Strategic Plan for 2005-2009.
Commissioner Hall, commenting on the Strategic Plan 2005-2009, said the plan is the guiding document and common agreement as to the priorities and future direction of the Police Force. He stressed that the plan is not intended to be directive but rather a framework for individuals to inspire collective participation in policing.
The strategic goals outlined within the plan are:
To reduce crime and the fear of crime
Combat drug trafficking, organized crime, illegal immigration and money laundering
Improve the RTCIPF organisational infrastructure to ensure delivery of high quality service.
Falling from the Strategic Plan is the Annual Commissioner’s Policing Plan for the force as a whole. In addition, there will be Annual Plans submitted by each division of the Force and the Personnel and Training Department.
