ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada: As Grenada endeavours to create a more efficient and well rounded work force, especially after hurricanes Ivan and Emily, the Agency for Reconstruction and Development Inc. (ARD) Director of Economic Recovery, Promil Paul, held the first in a series of briefing meetings with employers to discuss the upcoming ARD Job Fair and Employment Counselling Workshop, scheduled for September 10 at the Seamoon Industrial Park.

The Job Fair will show where the gaps are within the labour force,
according Ms. Beverly Brathwaite-George of Creative Design & Building Construction Co. Ltd.

Representatives of 12 institutions attended the meeting expressing their support for the event, indicating that it will help them identify potential employees, as well as help with the long-term training and retraining requirements for Grenada’s workforce.

It was agreed that all potential employees should register at the ARD booth prior to discussions with potential employers. Following registration, potential employees will receive assistance in compiling proper documentation for presentation to employers.

Group sessions will be conducted throughout the day on proper conduct during an interview, appropriate dress code, what documents to present and other relevant tips.

Some employers will have live demonstrations. These include Hubbard’s Automotive and Technical Department, who will have a vehicle on display with technicians explaining the required skills, and De La Grenade Industries Ltd., who will teach basket-making techniques.

Companies and agencies represented at the first briefing meeting included Hubbards, De la Grenade Industries, Courts Grenada Ltd., Creative Design, Marina and Yatching Association of Grenada, Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority, Housing Authority of Grenada, Grenada Board of Tourism, Grenada Bureau of Standards, Grenada Development Bank, GR3 and GRENED.
