SANTA DOMINGO, Dominican Republic: Jamaica’s national 100 metre record holder Asafa Powell suffered a set back in his build up to season after he was unable to finish the men’s 200m at the Felix Sanchez Invitational track meet in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Saturday.

Powell really looked as if he was going to run below 20seconds after covering the first half of the curve in a rush,” a correspondent told us.

Powell ran a sizzling 9.84 100m at the Jamaica International Invitational earlier this month to become joint-leader as the third fastest man of all time.

In the meantime, Sherone Simpson continued her world-leading form by removing fellow Jamaican Veronica Campbell from the top of the 200m list.

Simpson, the 100m world–leader at 11.03, won the women’s 200 in 22.46.

Felix Sanchez opened his 400m hurdles season on a winning note. The Dominican Republic superman won the race in 48.40 seconds.

Brigitte Foster-Hylton of Jamaica was also in good form, clocking a world-leading 12.56 seconds to win 100-metre hurdles.
