KANSAS, USA: 2000 Sydney Olympic female star Marion Jones and her boyfriend, world record holder Tim Montgomery, will compete in their first individual sprint event of the season on Caribbean soil on Saturday.
The Island of Martinique will be the place where Jones and Montgomery contest their first 100-metre dashes.
Jones has had an unimpressive opening season so far. She finished last place in the 400m at the Mount San Antonio Relays on April 17 prior to her team's disqualification in the 4x200 relay at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence last week after finishing first.
"It didn't go well for me that day," Jones said. "I had a little mental breakdown. I'm not concerned physically; the coach is not concerned that physically I'm not ready to run."
Montgomery will run the dash for the first time this season after running the 4x100 metres relay at the Mount San Antonio Relays. His USA High Performance White team finished fifth.
According a report from the Reuters, the Americans agent Charles Wells said the sprinters both need to run "individual races at this stage of the season rather than relays."
There are also reports suggesting that Jones and Montgomery were considering meeting in Mexico, Paris and Italy in May and June.
