GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The tug of war between the Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chris Gayle contract dispute finally came to an end, after Cable & Wireless (C&W) issued a press release indicating that the players were now available for the second test against South Africa in Trinidad, which begins next week.
"Cable and Wireless confirms that we are in receipt of a letter from attorney Sanjeev Datadin communicating the termination of the personal endorsement contracts of his clients Ramnaresh Sarwan and Christopher Gayle," the release said.
”We regret that we were unavailable to previously confirm receipt of this letter," said Mr Franklin in a unequivocal climbdown, "as it had been sent yesterday at 17.00 hours to an office in Trinidad, where there was a public holiday. Consequently, there was no one there to receive it. We apologize to Mr. Datadin for any undue discomfort this may have caused him or his clients," the statement said.
Cable and Wireless also announced that the company is still committed to West Indies cricket even with the current contract disputes.
"Our mission has been and continues to be to enable cricket in the West Indies to thrive, and to help set the stage for a successful Cricket World Cup 2007, we are in support of today's proposal by the WICB for a further contractual review by Caricom Justice Adrian Saunders."
