HAMILTON, Bermuda: More than three weeks after Hurricane Fabian lashed the island of Bermuda, another storm is threatening this British territory. Flights in and out of Bermuda have been canceled today because of Tropical Storm Juan and three cruise ships left a day early, the Associated Press quoted officials as saying.
The National Weather Service said Tropical Storm Juan formed yesterday and had sustained winds of 50 mph (80 kph). It was centered about 200 miles (320 kilometers) east-southeast of the territory.
At 11 p.m. last night, forecasters said, the center of the storm was located about 185 miles east-southeast of Bermuda.
Ten flights, including those from New York, Washington, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Toronto, were canceled because the government has closed the motorist causeway, which links the airport with the rest of the island as a precautionary measure.
The Atlantic hurricane season began on 1st June and runs through 30th November.
Meanwhile, the official search and recovery mission for three of the people missing since Hurricane Fabian lashed Bermuda, has been called off, according to the Royal Gazette. Only the body of Constable Stephen Symons was found since the four were swept off the Causeway during the height of Hurricane Fabian on 5th September.
