Guyana to host second leg of Inter-Guiana Games in October

Email To Friend Print Version | GEORGETOWN, Guyana (GINA) -- Guyana will host the second leg of the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG), with intense competition among youths from Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana in October. The games have been a major unifying event among the three adjoining nations and will include volleyball, basket ball and cycling.
Participants must be under the age of 19 years, must be attending a school or an institution and must be living in the country for at least one year.
Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, in an interview with the Government Information Agency stated that preparations are being made for the games, including training of youths, both males and females to play volleyball at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and on the West Demerara.
In addition, Kumar noted that National Cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed and President of the Cycling Federation, Hector Edwards have assured the Ministry that they are preparing the athletes for the cycling races.
He said that the championship will be highly competitive and would involve schools from Linden, Demerara and Berbice.
Kumar said he is satisfied with the preparations for the second leg of the IGG game which has been played among Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana for over 40 years.
The first leg of the games was held in Cayenne, French Guiana, and included athletics, swimming and football.
